Hello,

Few years ago I have received this plant from a friend from an Orchid Society, it was labelled as Encyclia alata. It has now flowered for the first time and well, it looks anything but! :)

I suspect it's some sort of Laelia cross, any ideas? The plants bares 2-3 leaves on fat, oval pseudobulbs.

Kind regards,

I was thinking that too Rob, but then anceps is a unifoliate and gouldiana has 2-3 leaves, perhaps that?

Anyway a pretty thing. Do you like it?

Coelogyne genus, that what the pseudobulbs remind me of.

Pretty sure this is Laelia anceps. This is a very variable Orchid with at least 200 different varieties. Can also be unifoliate or bifoliate. Because of the uncertainty regarding the origin of your plant you’d need a botanist to confirm 100%
