This is Cym. (Neil Pagano x Valerie Absolonova) and it is 38% ensifolium and 18% insigne, bred to flower during our summer when very few cymbidiums would normally be in bloom. A usefull plant to extend the cymbidium season. It came into bloom on August 24th this year.

Does the ensifolium parentage make it more heat tolerant?

A very nice, warm coloured flower Terry plus the bonus of having a Cym flowering at this time of year.

Yes, ensifolium has been one of the most useful species to impart the warmth tolerance.

That would make it a useful hybrid for those of us growing under warm/hot conditions. When might they start to become available, do you think?

I'm not sure if they will become available anytime soon. The main breeders of this type of cymbidium are Andy Easton in the USA and Kobsukh Kaenratana in Thailand. Neither have outlets in the EU so I suspect that we will only see a trickle of these coming in with private growers.

We may get a few unnamed plants of this type in our garden centres from wholesalers in the Netherlands but that will be about it.

I don't think that the UK is a big market for these plants as they are in general not as showy as the bigger cool growing cyms.
