Hi All,

I've been growing orchids for years, and used to have P. 'Buddha's Delight'. It was amazing because the flowers really were truly almost red. In some lights they did actually look red.

It was grown at Iven's Orchids in St. Albans, Hertfordshire. They sadly closed down some years ago.

My plant unfortunately died, and since then I have only been able to find P. 'Buddha's Treasure', which is decidedly purple.

It used to be possible to find P. 'Buddha's Delight' on the internet, but now it has completely vanished.

Conspiracy??

Does anyone have any info on this remarkable Phalaenopsis?

Best wishes,

Karsty.

Karsty, when an orchid is named it is done either officially by registering the cross with the RHS or unofficially where the breeder just gives it a trade name or a number without disclosing its breeding. If done officially it is possible to check breeding, originator, date of registration etc but otherwise nothing can be checked.

I have looked at the RHS database and there is no Phal. Buddha's Delight registered but there are lots of Buddha's XXXXX. Is it possible you have the name incorrect? Could it be Brother Delight rather than Buddha's Delight.

Hiya Folks,

Many thanks for your responses.

It definitely was labelled Buddha's Delight, I absolutely made a huge point of knowing its name because it was so unusual. It used to be possible to find it actually on the web.

I can't find any photos of Brother Delight....?

The colour rendering isn't bad, but It was actually redder than the photos show, and in certain lights it looked pure red.
