Hi Christos,

I have this one too (being a vandaceous plant) and as you have said, it's a regular, reliable bloomer (but no sign of this years spike yet)
But what I do have in flower now is a Seidenfadenia which I put on my Wish List after seeing yours here, bought one at last years London Orchid Show and it has its first flowering spike plus another spike coming up behaind it (but I haven't noticed the strong fragrance from it that you mentioned  )

Hi Steve,

Seidenfadenia mitrata is magnificent and has an extremely strong fragrance.

In case yours is blooming for the first time it is quite normal that she is not fragrant at the moment. You might have to wait for a while. I have noticed that young plants at their first blooming usually release the fragrance days after they open their flowers.

Otherwise if she is exposed to less sunlight she might be less fragrant. During very bright days fragrant orchids give the maximum of their fragrance.

Our S. mitrata has a very strong, sweet and sour like lemon fragrance that floods all the greenhouse. Friends who have the Seidenfadenia mitrata in their collections as well described the same fragrance and are very enthusiastic about it.

I am sure you will enjoy the fragrance of your beautiful S. mitrata very soon!

I do like the crystalline effect on the petals. Lovely flowers.

Hi & thank you Christos,

I know many flower spikes need to mature a liitle before releasng their scent, this one has been fully open for a few days and there is a scent reminding me of a lemon bathroom cleaner  when I put my nose near to it, but not the strength of a room-filling scent.
It is possible that it could be due to growing under HID lights, I tried to find an old Post of mine questioning whether HID lighting affects flower fragrance (but can't find it) as I suspected this for some time.

Still, I don't mind, I bought it for what it looked like and who knows, it may yet surprise with that room-filling scent after a few more days?
