Everything that is fully open is already posted in one place or another, but the great thing about this time of year is that they develop very quickly so something else will be along shortly.

I was in the greenhouse today pottering in the sunshine, so thought I'd update the green shoots. Some of the orchids are stubborn about coming up, some are quite advanced. The "empty" pots do in fact have growing tubers in them with shoots just at or under the soil, but I have no idea what's holding them back:

The daffodil-like flower on the right is Narcissus romieuxii, a completely exquisite species from the Atlas mountains in Morocco. It's my first year with it, and I gather it will need a good dry and sunny baking in its pot in the summertime, so I'll suspend it up at the greenhouse central ridge when it dies down. It's not going to give me a massed flowering this year, maybe three out the 10 or so bulbs have buds on them. Anyway, a couple more of that:

I also noticed my Utricularia nelumbifolia in flower. It seems to be constantly in flower the last couple of years, but has a dozen spikes on it now:

And outdoors, the snowdrops are in flower, and the first of the crocuses are already in flower - they'll be by far at their best in February though.

Your photos are full of the promise of spring, and boy do we need it. That little daffodil is fabulous. Is that green flower in the back of your first photo a calanthe? Thank you for sharing.

In the photo from March last year? The green flower is Oprhys aesculapii I think - there are more of it in the Image Archive.

Progress is ongoing. A few are only just above ground, many are now showing the starts of flower-spikes.

A few updates. Anacamptis papilonacea var. heroica and Ophrys attica are now starting to flower. And the Ophrys aesculapii is doing nicely with plenty of flowers now open. It's my second year growing the Anacamptis but the first time it's flowered for me.
