Is there any doubt that this is a virus?

Onset was sudden and rapid on this Cattleya maxima.

Bought October 2013, flowered October 2014. Nothing abnormal noticed with the flowers.
I repotted it in Feb 2015 and it had some rotted roots. However, after that it was rapidly growing lots of pseudobulbs and then, last Thursday, I noticed worrying damage to the leaves.
Today I see a ring pattern on them.

I think this one is for the bin!
Any comments?

That is something you do not want --- don't know what it is but bin it or burn it --that's what I would do'
Sorry Rachel but it looks well past it!!

It could just as easily be a form of rot if it happened quickly.
Whatever it is bin it!

Not sure about virus but something is having a good go, would virus show itself this rapidly? Has this been exposed to cold or suddenly a lot of direct sun, the temperatures have really been hi and low lately.
At the very least I would pull off all the leaves and hope the new leaves and growths are clean, if they aren't then it would be binned.

I swear it is getting worse as I look at it and since I took those photos an hour ago!
I've never seen the like and the speed at which it developed is scary!
I had a virus on a cattleya once before and it certainly didn't manifest like this but I suppose there are various viruses out there.
In answer to your question, Keith, no, the orchid has not been moved or exposed to anything different. Yes, light has increased but this is no sunburn!
The new growths seem clean but I don't want this around. I think I will video it tomorrow and then dispose of it (not on the garden compost ;-) )
Glad to hear you lot are as alarmed as I am but I don't know why that is so comforting :)
Thanks, folks.

It reminded me of the bacterial rots that I use to battle in Singapore. They only with I could say cut all the rot off then dusk all open areas with cinnamon powder. And just hope for the best.

I wonder how on earth it caught this virus or bacterial rot ! Very strange.
Chris, I am not sure I want this plant around and feel a ceremonial burning coming on :P
