Hello all, for those of you interested in apps for mobile devices why don't you give tapatalk a go. Basically it is an app for displaying forums instead of trying to view in a browser, there are many forums with many subjects to choose from. It is loads easier to view content and images, also easy to post etc. Great for when you are mobile, be good when away on holiday too. Websites are difficult to view on mobile devices, especially phone's. This will definitely keep me more connected.
Our forum has now installed the TapaTalk plugin!
Hopefully it will work without any negative impact on the forum.
Just search tapatalk in your device app store!

Sent from my HTC Desire X using Tapatalk

Been using TapaTalk for a few days now and gotta say I love it. It is great to scroll down your phone or tablet and see the topics all there in a really easy way to read, you tapa topic and scroll through the posts, tapa post and read the comments! Or reply easily. I know why they called it TapaTalk now! Clever, give it ago and get tapping!
It even allows me to moderate!

I agree, fun to use. Makes the forum slightly more addictive though. Found myself checking it during my lunch break :) can't see any way of starting a new thread though? Or is that just me?

It is! And quite easy to navigate and read...

Start a new topic by taping the top right corner(3 little vertical squares)! You will then find New topic - subscribe- mark forum as read- refresh.

If you keep your finger on a post a box pops us for subscribing, sharing & moderate- but think moderate will only be there for moderators.
Hope this helps :P ...

Me too, WilECoyote. In fact I would never be surprised to see a model of my cell phone when browsing round a museum somewhere. Just takes and makes calls.........oh yes, and rarely texts. Certainly not a profit customer for my pay as you go provider! I guess my generation keeps to just what we need rather than "because we can".

I would be lost without my smart phone now, it keeps me in touch quickly and wherever I am. I got my wife a smart phone for £50 and her monthly SIM tariff is only £5! Hasn't got to be expensive.

Naaaaah! Fones is for foning..............especially as we hardly get any signal here anyway unless we go stand outside.........and that us usually wet and blowy. Reminder that we are as far as 13 miles from the centre of Nottingham which is deemed "outback" for posh services like telecoms which is why my email comes by radio to an aerial on the roof because the decrepit copper wires cannot cope. The really potty thing is that Utilities don't (or rather are not obliged) to talk to one another so when they put in a completely new water main last year it did not occur to anybody to lay fibre optic alongside. If people want me they can leave a message (sorry, wrong parlance - I think I mean voice mail) on the land line and I have to ring back.
Oh to be able to join the modern world and have access to all those Nice-To-Haves.
Richard

Note that tapatalk only supports the main discussion bit of the forum... it is very basic what it does :P. See this in the FAQs for the gallery:

Users of tapatalk: If you are using tapatalk to access the forum on your mobile phone, the posts in the gallery area will not be visible to you on tapatalk (you can access it but it will redirect you to a web browser on your phone instead). Please come and use the forum via regular internet browsers every now and then so you don't miss out on all the gallery posts and discussions!

More tapatalk problems...... completely unrelated to the forum, and just with Tapatalk it seems: If you are having problems accessing this forum on Tapatalk, please can you:

1) Post on this thread to let me know what phone operating system you are using (iOS, Android, etc.)
2) Uninstall the app from your phone entirely, then re-install it.

That should fix this newest issue.

I am proposing to make the forum unavailable on Tapatalk. Two reasons:

- Tapatalk doesn't show you the whole forum, and users will miss lots of content if they rely on it
- I'm not convinced it is secure

I'd appreciate any comments or thoughts on doing this.

:/

Ta.

Don't like as it did not show the forum that well, the same went for other forums that I am on so it is uninstalled.

I don't think I have missed anything at all, the purpose of it is so forums can be viewed on phones and tablets, so for that reason I think it is brilliant, especially for phones which forums are really difficult to navigate and view. I personally think it would be a step backwards if uninstalled as I probably wouldn't come to the forum when on the move.

Tapatalk is the only way I can read the forum on my phone. My tablet is large enough to show in the full browser, but I would miss being able to catch up while eating lunch when there is only my phone available. I don't do it that often though, so would just have to read the other forums I take part in if this one wasn't available.

Tapatalk doesn't display the photo posts, or any discussions going on on them, which are around half the forum.

Hi Rob, The photos are of little importance to me personally, they can be easily viewed later when at home, the main board is what I come here the most for. Why aren't the photos available? Other forums have access but is this because on here it is a separate gallery?

Photos in normal threads display OK. Tapatalk has no idea we have a whole set of photo-posts area though, and it doesn't display those. And more problematically, it will still note your log in on Tapatalk and when you finally do get round to logging in on a web browser, it will assume you have already seen the image posts, and won't show them to you in the "View new photo-posts" link. This isn't what we need here.

And added the security problems around it.....

Does anyone else rely on Tapatalk?

TapaTalk is how I found this forum. :) I'm on OrchidBoard as well, and it's easy to keep track of both that and this forum. I even bought the "premium" version.

I have noticed loads of posts on OB using TapaTalk. It's a great app. I haven't noticed the issues you say Rob, maybe I will now but I haven't been aware at all. Like I said I see the gallery as seperate anyway as they are in no way really joined anyway so just catch up when I can.
