Hello fellow orchid enthusiasts,

I dipped my toe in the water with orchids a few years ago with a small collection of phalaenopsis and oncidiums on the kitchen windowsill and some pleiones and cymbidiums in my unheated north facing conservatory. I am looking to focus on the cool growing orchids as I seem to be able to offer them the conditions that they need. Any advise and tips that I can gather would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Al

Welcome to the forum Al, I too concentrate on the cool growing plants particularly cyms. You may want to look at a zygopetalum to add to your cool growers. They are colourful and scented.

Hi everyone,

Thanks for the advice Terry. I'll keep an eye out for a zygopetalum, nice to have some scent as well. I was going to look into masdevallias, coelogyne, and sarcohilus as well to start with I think. I will document my successes and failures.

Thank you all for the nice welcome.

Al

Good to see someone from my neck of the woods.

Admittedly I'm not a member or attend much now as I don't live in South Staffs any more, but it's a nice society. They have their orchid show on April 28th, it'd be a great chance to introduce yourself to the society, and they have a number of nurseries there selling plants.
