If you've ever bought a garden center labelled as N. alata, what you really have is a ventrata (ventricosa x alata).

Here is the real N. alata!

Nice. I believe there are several orchids of the same specie. I remember seeing it once I went to a greenhouse farm.
Very attractive to see the shape.

I dont know its not flowered yet, the current identification is based on the 'usual suspects' of self proclaimed experts on another forum. However i have a feeling that somewhere allong the way some of them might have lost grip on reality... The naming of graciliflora as a species is based on old herbarium material, without recourse to field studies, as we know plants can be highly variable in-situ...

The saga continues. Graciliflora does not have hairs on the outside of the pitcher, this plant does, so its back to being somewhere in the alata complex, possibly an intermediate form between graciliflora and alata.

Anyway what it is not, is the hybrid ventrata everyone buys in the local garden centre. :D
